November 18, 2016 Cab Fire w/ NS 7210 at South Fork, PA

On Friday November 18, 2016, as a South Fork crew was securing their engines for the night, an electrical fire broke out in the cab of NS 7210. There were no injuries, but the cab interior was completely destroyed. The unit was towed to the Juniata Shops in Altoona where it was burried in a deadline, never to run again. The 7210 was among the units sold to Progress Rail and scrapped in 12/2021 or 1/2022. We're not aware of any photos taken during or immediately after the fire. These photos were taken three months after the fire.

Description: As we climb onto the unit, we can see the heat damaged the windshield and warped the numberboards. Side windows were also broken and smashed out but the glass damage may have been caused partially by the firefighting effort.

Description: This is the room immediately behind the cab and electrical cabinet. As we can see, this area was untouched by the fire. This is where the flange lubricators and access to the rear of the electrical cabinet can be found.
